The famous Sri Ayyappa Bhajana Mandir is situated at Kelugudde in Kasaragod town.

Kasaragod is the northernmost district of Kerala State. The place Kelugudde is well known as a confluence of three Panchayat areas of Mogral Puttur, Madhur and Kasaragod. Kasaragod is unique for its art, culture and temples.

With Sri Gudde Mahadeva, Sri Vishnumurti, Parvathi and Raktheshwari on the northern side, Lord Sri Madhur Siddhi Vinayaka, Sri Madananteshwara, Sri Kutyala Gopalakrishna and Srishaila Mahadeva resplendent on the eastern side, Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy and Lord Sri Venkataramana on the southern side, and Kavugoli Sri Mahavishnu on the western side, Sri Ayyappa Bhajana Mandir is well-established in the centre.

This area is part of God’s Own Country. A devotee named Kelu resided in this area in the past and hence this part of the Kasaragod town came to be known as Kelugudde(‘Gudde’ means hill).

This area was once only a place for cattle-grazing. In due course, people started dwelling here, since about 35 years. The residents felt the need for a centre of faith for their religious needs in the locality and commenced activities by forming an Association on 12.12.1984 named Sri Ayyappa Bhajana Sangha, Ayyappa Nagar, Kelugudde.

A temporary building was erected and a photo of Lord Sri Ayyapa was installed on 6.2.1985. The Annual day celebrations are being held on 26th December every year from 1985 onwards.

The centre became famous and it was revealed during astrological consultations from time to time that the divine presence of Lord Sri Ayyappa is very strong in this place, in this age of Kaliyuga, fulfilling the prayers of the devotees. It was decided to build a pucca temple for the Lord. With the whole hearted co-operation of all Hindu devotees, incessant efforts of the service minded community members, all tasks such as purchase of land, construction of a magnificent building, etc were completed within a record time of 6 months. The reinstallation of the image of Lord Ayyappa was performed on 2008 (Dhanurmasa 14 in the month of December 2008).

As revealed in further astrological consultations after about four or five years, a silver idol of Lord Ayyappa was installed on 29.12.2014 (Dhanurmasa 14 in the month of December 2008). The daily pooja rituals and bhajan on Saturdays are being regularly conducted.

During the anniversary celebrations in 2019, offering of a Gold Crown to the Lord was fulfilled.

Sri Ayyappa is being gloriously worshipped here and is famous for blessing the devotees with whatever they earnestly and reverently pray for. It is firmly believed that Lord Ayyappa here really listens to the prayers of the devotees and blesses all who steadfastly believe in him with the shelter of his protection.
